Getting Started

When you start the game, you will likely see a title screen and then a menu in Japanese. Use the D-Pad to navigate and press X (A button) to confirm your selection. The first option is typically "New Game" or a mode select screen. Choose a single-player mode to begin a match against computer opponents. In riichi mahjong, the goal is to form a winning hand of four melds and a pair using tiles drawn from the wall. You start with 13 tiles; each turn you draw one and discard one. Watch for calls like "pon" (triplet) or "chi" (sequence) that opponents might make. The interface displays your hand, discards, and point counts in Japanese but the basic flow is standard mahjong. Use the Select button (V) to access options like sorting tiles or checking win conditions if available. Start (Enter) usually pauses or confirms actions. If you are new to mahjong, learning the yaku (winning patterns) is essential; the game may include a tutorial or rule screen in Japanese. Take your time to familiarize yourself with the tile symbols and discard layout.
