Power Quest

Power Quest is a fighting game for the Game Boy Color that pits players against each other using model robots. Released in multiple languages including English, French, German, Spanish, and Italian, this title was sold in the USA under the same cart. It belongs to the wave of handheld fighters from the late 90s that tried to bring arcade-style combat to a portable screen. The cartridge uses the Game Boy Color's modest hardware to render small but colorful robot sprites. The gameplay revolves around selecting a robot and engaging in one-on-one battles. Each robot likely has a set of unique attacks and movement patterns. The player must land hits on the opponent while avoiding incoming strikes, building up energy or special meter to unleash more powerful moves. The fighting system follows the typical 2D fighter template: directional inputs combined with button presses to execute punches, kicks, and special techniques. Matches are usually decided over a few rounds. For collectors of Game Boy Color fighting games, Power Quest offers a quirky premise with its toy-like robots. It is not a deep or complex title compared to console fighters, but its portable nature and simple controls make it a fun pick-up-and-play experience. The multilingual support also means it saw a wider release than many niche GBC games. If you enjoy retro handheld brawlers or model robot concepts, this one is worth a look.
