Pocket Puyo Puyo-n

Pocket Puyo Puyo-n is a portable version of the classic puzzle series, released exclusively for the Game Boy Color in Japan. Published by Compile, it brings the addictive color-matching gameplay to Nintendo's handheld. This edition was designed specifically for the GBC hardware, meaning it takes advantage of the system's color palette and offers a compact, on-the-go Puyo experience that fans of the series will recognize immediately. The core objective is to match falling Puyo blobs - small creatures of various colors - by aligning four or more of the same color either vertically or horizontally. When you make a match, those Puyo disappear, and any above them fall down, potentially creating chain reactions. The player competes against the computer or another player, sending garbage Puyo to the opponent's screen when chains are made. The game offers a single-player story mode and versus modes, which is the standard for this genre. For puzzle enthusiasts and Puyo Puyo fans, this Game Boy Color version is a neat piece of the series' history. While it doesn't introduce major new mechanics, it faithfully recreates the frantic, strategic puzzle action that made the series popular. Its portability makes it a worthwhile addition for collectors, especially those interested in Japan-exclusive handheld titles. The presentation is charming but simple, typical of the era's puzzle games on the system.
