Ojarumaru - Mangan Jinja no Ennichi de Ojaru! - Platformer Classic

Ojarumaru - Mangan Jinja no Ennichi de Ojaru! is a Japan-exclusive Game Boy Color title that brings the popular anime character Ojarumaru to handheld gaming. Released around the early 2000s, this game was developed and published by a company not widely documented in Western sources. It fits the classic platformer genre, taking advantage of the Game Boy Color's enhanced palette to present colorful stages themed around Japanese festivals and shrines. The player controls Ojarumaru through side-scrolling levels, jumping over obstacles and using his trademark scepter to ward off enemies. The core objective is to progress through each stage, collecting items and avoiding hazards. While the exact mechanics are not widely detailed, the game likely follows standard platforming conventions of the era, with multiple levels and a focus on precise jumping. The Japanese-only menus require some navigation familiarity, but the gameplay is intuitive enough for most retro gamers. For fans of the Ojarumaru anime or collectors of Japan-only Game Boy Color games, this title offers a charming slice of early 2000s handheld culture. It may not break new ground in terms of gameplay, but its faithful adaptation of the source material and colorful visuals make it a pleasant experience. If you enjoy obscure licensed platformers from the Game Boy Color library, this is worth a look.
