Inside Grinch, The

The Grinch for Game Boy Color is an action-adventure game tied directly to the 2000 live-action film starring Jim Carrey, which itself was based on Dr. Seuss's classic holiday story. It came out in North America during the holiday season of that year, giving portable players a chance to step into the furry green villain's shoes. The publisher and developer aren't widely documented in most retro databases, but the cartridge was a standard licensed release for the system, not a hack or homebrew effort. The gameplay puts you in control of the Grinch as he sneaks around Whoville, pulling pranks and collecting items to sabotage the Whos' Christmas celebration. You'll navigate side-scrolling levels, avoid or interact with the cheerful townsfolk, and gather enough stolen presents and decorations to complete each stage. There's a light puzzle element in figuring out the right order of mischief, and the action-adventure framework means you spend as much time exploring as you do avoiding being caught. Today The Grinch stands as a decent licensed movie tie-in that captures the tone of the film, even if it never broke new ground for the genre. It's a solid pick for retro collectors who enjoy holiday-themed games or want to see how Jim Carrey's Grinch translated to the small screen. The sprite work is charming and the levels are straightforward, making it a quick but enjoyable playthrough for anyone nostalgic for early 2000s licensed fare.

How to play Grinch, The online

Getting Started When you boot up The Grinch, the first screen is a simple menu with options like New Game and Continue. Press Enter to start a fresh file, then use the D-Pad to highlight your choice and press X to confirm. The game immediately drops you into the opening level of Whoville, where the Grinch has already begun his scheme to steal Christmas. Your core objective in each stage is to collect a set number of sacks of presents, ornaments, or other holiday loot while avoiding the Whos who roam around. Move left and right with the D-Pad, jump over obstacles with X, and use S to run faster or interact with objects. Some gates or doors require you to find keys or complete small tasks, so explore every area. The game saves progress automatically when you finish a level, so you don't need to worry about passwords. New players should keep an eye on the on-screen counter showing how many more items you need. If a Who spots you, they'll chase briefly but can be avoided by ducking into a hiding spot or simply outrunning them. There's no health bar in the traditional sense; getting caught just resets you to a checkpoint. The game is fairly forgiving, so focus on collecting everything and learning the layout of each stage to move through Whoville with ease.
