Golf Ou plays like a typical top-down or side-on golf game from the era. At the start, you choose a course and then select a club based on distance to the hole. The D-pad controls aiming direction, while the A button initiates the swing. A power meter appears on screen; pressing A again sets the swing strength and accuracy. The timing and precision of your button presses determine shot quality, with a small sweet spot for perfect hits.

Hazards like bunkers and water require careful club selection and aim. The putt mechanic uses a similar timing-based system on the green. Since all menus are in Japanese, trial and error may be needed to navigate player selection, course choice, or settings. The core loop involves playing through 9 or 18 holes, tracking strokes against par, and trying to improve your score on each round.
