What is Golf de Ohasuta?

Golf de Ohasuta is a Japan-exclusive golf game released for the Game Boy Color, likely arriving sometime around the turn of the millennium. The publisher and developer are not widely documented, which is common for many niche Japanese handheld titles of that era. It's a straightforward sports game built around golf mechanics, tailored for the portable Game Boy Color audience. The player takes on the role of a golfer, aiming to complete each hole in as few strokes as possible. You select a club, set the direction and power of your swing, and watch the ball travel across the course. Hazards like bunkers and water come into play, and you must account for wind and terrain. The interface is in Japanese, but the core gameplay loop is typical of golf games: tee off, approach the green, and putt out. What makes Golf de Ohasuta worth a look is its quirky presentation - the Ohasuta mascot and character designs give it a distinct personality compared to more straightforward golf sims. The game runs smoothly on real hardware or emulators, and for collectors of Japan-only GBC releases, it holds a certain charm. It's not a deep simulation, but as a simple, playable golf game with a unique flavor, it fits nicely into the library of any retro golf enthusiast.

How to play Golf de Ohasuta online

Getting Started

When you boot up Golf de Ohasuta, the title screen will likely present a press-start prompt. Use Enter to proceed, and you'll land on a menu in Japanese. The first option is probably to start a round; the others may cover options or high scores. Use the D-Pad to select and X (A button) to confirm.

On the course, you'll see a top-down view of your golfer and the fairway. Press X to begin a swing - a power meter will appear. Press X again to set power, then once more to control accuracy (standard golf timing). You can change clubs with the D-Pad left/right before swinging. The goal is simple: put the ball in the hole with as few strokes as possible. Watch out for obstacles and adjust for wind direction shown on screen.

Since the game is in Japanese, navigation may require some trial and error, but the golf mechanics are intuitive. If you get stuck on menus, using the S button (B) often cancels or goes back. For a quick game, just mash through the first menu options - most golf games on GBC default to a standard 9-hole round. Enjoy the quirky course and take your time with each shot.
