Bomberman Max - Blue Champion (USA)
Bomberman Max - Blue Champion (USA) Overview
Bomberman Max - Blue Champion is a handheld action-puzzle game released for the Game Boy Color in 2000. It came out in North America as part of a pair with Bomberman Max - Red Challenger, each version offering slightly different stages and collectible Charaboms. Developed by Hudson Soft and published by Vatical Entertainment, it takes the classic Bomberman formula and adapts it for the portable system with an adventure-like structure. This is the Blue Champion version, which features exclusive levels and Charaboms not found in the other cartridge.
How to Play Bomberman Max - Blue Champion (USA) Online
When you start Bomberman Max - Blue Champion, you are dropped into an overworld map with multiple worlds. Move Bomberman around using the D-Pad and enter a stage by pressing X (A button). Each stage is a grid filled with soft blocks, hard blocks, enemies, and power-up capsules. Your goal is to place bombs to destroy soft blocks, defeat enemies, and collect the key to open the exit. Once you find the exit, step onto it to clear the stage.
The core loop involves planning bomb placements to efficiently clear a path while avoiding explosions and enemy attacks. You can pick up power-ups like increased bomb count, blast radius, and speed to make later stages easier. The game also features hidden Charabom creatures to collect, which adds a completionist angle. If you have a link cable and another copy of either Blue Champion or Red Challenger, you can battle or trade Charaboms with a friend. Save your progress using the in-game save option on the overworld menu.
