Barbie - Ocean Discovery on GBC

Barbie: Ocean Discovery on Game Boy Color is a port of a 1997 Windows educational adventure game. Released in 1999, this version was developed by Realtime Associates and originally published by Mattel Media for the PC. It's a straightforward licensed title aimed at younger players, fitting neatly into the handheld's library of casual, exploration-based games. The player controls Barbie as she explores underwater environments, solving simple puzzles and interacting with sea life. The core loop involves moving between screens, examining objects, and collecting items to advance the story. It's a slow-paced, point-and-click style adventure translated to the Game Boy Color's controls, with an emphasis on discovery and gentle challenges. For retro collectors, this is a decent example of how major PC games were adapted for the Game Boy Color. It's not a technical marvel or a deep experience, but it captures the spirit of the original and offers a relaxing playthrough. If you enjoy licensed handheld games from the late '90s, it's worth a quick look, especially if you're curious about Barbie's foray into portable gaming.
