Atlantis - The Lost Empire on GBC

Atlantis: The Lost Empire hit the Game Boy Color in 2001, right around the time the Disney movie of the same name was in theaters. This is an official release tied to the animated film, so you're getting a licensed platformer aimed at younger players. The cartridge was sold in both the USA and Europe, which explains the dual region tag. It was a standard movie tie-in from that era, the kind you'd pick up at a rental store or buy for your kids. The game lets you control four different characters from the movie, each presumably with their own abilities, as you explore environments related to the search for Atlantis. The core gameplay is side-scrolling action, with jumping, climbing, and some light puzzle elements mixed in. You'll switch between characters to overcome obstacles, kind of like other Disney GBC titles such as Tarzan or The Emperor's New Groove. It's pretty straightforward: move right, defeat enemies, collect items, reach the end of the stage. Honestly, Atlantis on GBC is a decent movie tie-in for its time, but it's not going to blow you away. If you're a completionist collecting Disney handheld games, or you have fond memories of the movie, it's worth a look. Otherwise, it plays like many other licensed platformers on the system - functional but not particularly deep or memorable. It does what it sets out to do, and for a quick nostalgia trip, it's fine.

How to play Atlantis - The Lost Empire online

When you boot up Atlantis - The Lost Empire, you'll see a title screen and then a simple menu - choose New Game and you're dropped into the first level. The game is a side-scrolling platformer where you control one of four movie characters (Milo, Kida, Helga, and maybe Vinny) - each has a unique ability like climbing ropes, shooting, or using a grappling hook. You'll switch between them at set points or by collecting special tokens. The core loop is classic GBC action: run and jump through jungle ruins, underwater caves, and Atlantean halls, avoid or defeat enemies (mostly hostile creatures and traps), and collect artefacts and health items. Some levels have simple puzzles, like pressing switches to open doors or pushing blocks. If you get stuck, try switching characters - one might be able to reach a ledge or break a wall the others can't. Since it's an official tie-in, the game is fairly linear - just keep moving right and explore every path for hidden items.
