What is Adventures of the Smurfs, The?

Adventures of the Smurfs, The is a licensed platformer for the Game Boy Color, published by Infogrames. This European release includes multiple language options - English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, and Dutch - making it accessible to a wide audience. The game belongs to the era of colorful, kid-friendly titles that dominated handheld systems in the late 1990s and early 2000s, capitalizing on the enduring popularity of the Smurfs franchise. You take control of a Smurf and navigate side-scrolling levels filled with obstacles, enemies, and collectibles. The core gameplay involves jumping between platforms, avoiding or defeating hazards, and gathering items like mushrooms or berries. The levels are structured with a clear goal at the end, often requiring you to reach a certain point or collect enough objects before time runs out. The controls are simple - jump and move - but the challenge ramps up with trickier jumps and more densely packed enemies as you progress. As a straightforward licensed game, Adventures of the Smurfs doesn't break any new ground but serves as a competent example of the genre on the Game Boy Color. It's worth a look for fans of the Smurfs or those interested in how popular cartoon characters were adapted into games during that period. The multiple language support is a nice touch, and the game's modest difficulty makes it a relaxing playthrough. It won't blow your mind, but it captures the charm of the source material well enough.

How to play Adventures of the Smurfs, The online

When you start the game, you'll see a title screen with a menu. Use the D-Pad to navigate and press X to select an option. The first thing you'll likely do is begin a new game. The game presents you with a series of side-scrolling levels. Your character, a Smurf, can move left or right, jump, and perform a simple action (like stomping or using an item) with the B button. The core objective in each stage is to reach the end flag or collect a required number of items. Watch out for obstacles like holes, spikes, and enemy creatures that move along set paths. The game uses a lives system; losing all lives sends you back to the beginning of the level. There are no continues, so proceed carefully.
