When you start a new game, you'll be placed in the first side-scrolling stage. Your character Syd can move left and right, jump, and attack using the B button. The D-Pad controls movement, and pressing B attacks with your current weapon. You can collect different weapons by defeating enemies or finding pickups in the stage.

The core loop is simple: advance through the stage, defeat enemies, and avoid taking damage. Each stage ends with a boss fight that requires learning its attack patterns and using your weapons effectively. You have a health bar, and collecting hearts or other items can restore it. If you lose all health, you'll continue from the start of the stage with limited lives.

Since this is the American version, all menus and text are in English, so navigating options and understanding objectives is straightforward. The game does not have a tutorial, so expect to learn by doing. Experiment with different weapons to find which ones suit your playstyle against different enemies and bosses.
