The game uses real player names (from the 1994 season) so you'll see recognizable stars like Emmitt Smith or Barry Sanders. The core gameplay loop is simple: on offense, select a play from a small selection (run or pass), then control the quarterback to hand off or throw. On defense, choose a formation and then control a specific player to try to sack the quarterback or intercept passes. The computer opponent plays a full eleven-man defense, so you need to read the field quickly. One important thing to know: the playbook is limited compared to later football games, so learning a handful of effective plays is key. Also, the game uses a simplified injury system and no fatigue, so you can focus on the action. If playing against a friend, the second player can join at any point by pressing Start on a second controller.
