Space Harrier II Overview

Space Harrier II for the Sega Genesis is a home console port of Sega's 1988 arcade sequel. It arrived in the early 1990s, giving Genesis owners a taste of the franchise's signature pseudo-3D shooter action. Published by Sega, this version aimed to bring the arcade's fast-paced gameplay to living rooms, though it faced technical limitations compared to its coin-op cousin. The player controls a running character who moves forward automatically through surreal, colorful landscapes. Using the D-pad to dodge obstacles and enemies, you fire projectiles and jump to avoid attacks. The core loop is straightforward: blast everything in sight while staying alive for as long as possible. Each stage ends with a boss encounter that tests your reflexes and pattern recognition. Space Harrier II is worth revisiting for anyone curious about early 3D-style shooters on 16-bit hardware. It captures the frantic energy of the arcade original even if it doesn't match its technical polish. For a Genesis library filled with platformers and beat-'em-ups, this title stands out as a solid, if slightly rough, arcade conversion that still delivers quick bursts of fun.

How to play Space Harrier II online

Once you hit Start, the game drops you straight into the action. Your character runs forward automatically - you don't control movement along the path, only left/right dodging and forward/backward speed. Press S to fire your weapon at enemies that pop up from all sides, and X to jump over low obstacles or enemy projectiles. The goal is simple: survive each stage by blasting everything and avoiding damage. Your health bar depletes with each hit, and continues are limited. The key is to keep moving and learn attack patterns, especially during bosses. Don't forget you can also use the D-pad to pull back or rush forward slightly - useful for dodging tight clusters.
