Samurai Shodown

Start by selecting a character from the roster. Each has unique weapons and special moves. The core loop is a best-of-three match against an opponent. You can move left or right, block by pressing back, and attack with the B button. Try button combinations for special moves - each character has a distinct moveset, often involving quarter-circle or charge inputs. The goal is to deplete the opponent's health bar before time runs out.

Pay attention to the power gauge below the health bar. It fills as you take or deal damage, letting you perform a super move (Weapon Blast) when full. You can also disarm the opponent with a well-timed attack, leaving them defenseless for a moment. Practice basic combos and spacing to gain an advantage. The single-player arcade mode pits you against eight fighters, with a final boss. There is no story mode beyond the arcade ladder.
