How to play Populous online

Getting Started

When you start Populous, you see an isometric overworld divided into plots owned by your tribe and the enemy. Your first job is to raise land near your followers so they have space to build houses. Use the D-Pad to move the cursor, then press the A button (X key) to raise terrain or the B button (S key) to lower it. Your followers automatically build homes on flat land, which increases your population and generates mana, the resource you use for divine actions.

The core loop is simple: expand your territory by raising land for new buildings, then attack enemy settlements by raising a landslide or sending knights. Keep an eye on the mana gauge - if it runs low, you cannot perform actions. The game advances through levels, each with a different world map and rival deity. There are no complicated menus; the action is all on the single screen. Just remember that your followers are semi-autonomous, so you only need to shape the world and let them do the rest.
