Mega Bomberman (USA)
Mega Bomberman (USA) - Action Classic
Mega Bomberman is the Sega Genesis port of the TurboGrafx-16 game Bomberman '94, released in North America in 1994. Developed by Hudson Soft and published by Sega, this action-maze game is the third entry in the Bomberman series. It's a straightforward port, not a hack or mod, and brings the same bomb-laying gameplay that defined the franchise on the 16-bit era.
You control Bomberman through a grid-based maze, placing bombs to destroy soft blocks and reveal power-ups or exits. The goal in single-player is to defeat all enemies in each stage and then face a boss. Power-ups increase bomb range, let you kick bombs, or add extra bombs you can place at once. The game's core loop is methodical: plan your bomb placements, avoid getting caught in blasts, and clear the path to the exit.
What makes Mega Bomberman worth trying today is its fast, strategic multiplayer. Up to two players can battle in split-screen deathmatches, a mode that defined many couch multiplayer sessions of the era. If you like Bomberman games, this is a solid version, though it lacks some features from later entries. It's a faithful port that holds up well for quick pick-up-and-play sessions.
