How to play Daikoukai Jidai II online
Getting Started
When you power on the game, you will first pick a character from a selection screen. Each character offers a different starting location and overall objective, such as achieving a certain rank or finding a legendary treasure. The menus are entirely in Japanese, so it helps to know that the top option in any menu is usually the confirm or proceed choice. The d-pad navigates, and the A button (X) selects.
Once in the game, you control your ship on the world map. Sail into a port to dock and enter the town menu, where you can buy and sell goods, repair your ship, hire crew, and talk to locals. Trading between ports is the most reliable way to earn money early on, but keep an eye on your food and water supplies or your crew will mutiny. Naval battles are triggered when you encounter enemy ships on the map; you can choose to fight or flee. The core loop is exploring, trading, and slowly upgrading your vessel while completing story objectives unique to your character.
Because the game does not have an English mode, you may want to find a fan translation patch if you are playing from a ROM. Alternatively, a menu guide or walkthrough can help you navigate the Japanese text. The game auto-saves when you sleep at an inn, so take advantage of that often. Do not be afraid to explore; the game is designed to be forgiving even if you make mistakes early on.

Daikoukai Jidai II FAQ
Who developed Daikoukai Jidai II?
Koei developed and published the game internally. The same team behind other Koei historical simulation titles like Romance of the Three Kingdoms worked on this project.
Is there anything iconic or memorable about Daikoukai Jidai II?
Its sprawling open-world design was groundbreaking for a console game of its time. The ability to play as multiple characters with vastly different storylines and the detailed trade economy system set it apart from other RPGs and simulations on the Genesis.
Which regions was Daikoukai Jidai II released in?
On the SEGA Genesis, it was only released in Japan. Versions for the Super Famicom and PC came to North America and Europe under the title Uncharted Waters: New Horizons, but the Genesis port never left Japan.
