After Burner II (USA, Europe)
After Burner II (USA, Europe) on Genesis
After Burner II landed on the SEGA Genesis as a home port of Sega's hugely successful arcade rail shooter, originally released in 1987. This is the sequel to the original After Burner, and just like Out Run, it cemented Sega's reputation for delivering high-energy arcade experiences. The Genesis version brought the intense dogfighting action to living rooms in North America and Europe, letting console players finally experience the thrill of blasting through waves of enemy jets without feeding quarters.
How to Play After Burner II (USA, Europe) Online
You pilot an F-14 Tomcat and must survive 18 stages of enemy fighters, missiles, and gunfire. The core loop is simple: fly forward, dodge incoming projectiles by moving left or right, and lock onto enemies with your radar to unleash homing missiles. The B button fires your main cannon, while the A button (or Y button if you prefer) triggers missiles. You can also perform evasive rolls by pressing up or down quickly.
Start by choosing your aircraft at the title screen (the default is fine). Once the mission begins, stay focused on the horizon - enemies appear suddenly from all angles. Your health bar depletes with every hit, but you can collect stars and power-ups along the way. There's no continue system in this port, so you need to survive each stage in one go. Practice your dodging and missile timing to make it through the later waves.
