Tear of Nile

Tear of Nile is an MSX 1 game that appears to be an action-adventure title set in ancient Egypt. It was released during the early 1980s, when the MSX platform was gaining traction in Japan and Europe. The developer and publisher are not widely documented today, which is common for many small-scale or budget releases from that era. The game uses simple monochrome or limited-color graphics typical of early MSX software, and the title suggests a narrative revolving around the Nile River and possibly a sacred relic. The player controls a character who explores side-scrolling levels, avoiding hazards and interacting with objects. Based on the Egyptian setting, gameplay likely involves collecting items, solving simple puzzles, and avoiding enemies such as snakes or mummies. The controls are relatively straightforward: movement with the D-pad and a single action button for jumping or interacting. The core loop involves navigating each stage to reach an exit or retrieve an object, with a time limit or health bar adding pressure. Without a detailed manual, the exact mechanics are uncertain, but the game follows the pattern of many early MSX platform-adventures. Today, Tear of Nile is a curiosity for retro collectors and MSX enthusiasts interested in obscure titles with an Egyptian theme. It does not have the polish or fame of big-name MSX releases like Metal Gear or Vampire Killer, but it offers a glimpse into the variety of games produced for the system. Its niche appeal lies in its unusual setting and the challenge of figuring out its progression without modern aids. If you enjoy digging into lesser-known 8-bit games, this one might be worth a short play session to see how it measures up.
