Queen's Golf is an early sports title for the MSX 1 home computer system, released during the mid-1980s when the platform was gaining traction in Japan and parts of Europe. Specific details about its developer or publisher are not widely documented today, but it follows the standard golf simulation formula popular at the time. The game likely came on a cartridge or cassette, typical for MSX 1 releases, and offered a straightforward pick-up-and-play experience for fans of the genre. You take on the role of a golfer, aiming to complete each hole in as few strokes as possible. The core gameplay involves selecting the right club for the distance, adjusting your aim around obstacles like trees and sand traps, then executing a swing with a power meter that requires precise timing to control distance and accuracy. Putting on the green demands careful judgment of slopes and speed. The MSX 1 version keeps things simple with minimal graphics and sound, focusing on the mechanics rather than flashy presentation. Today, Queen's Golf is a niche curiosity for collectors of MSX 1 sports games. It does not push any boundaries, but it represents the kind of solid, no-frills simulation that defined many early computer golf titles. If you enjoy classic golf games with simple controls and a forgiving learning curve, this one is worth a quick round. Just keep in mind that it is a very basic implementation compared to later golf simulators, so manage expectations accordingly.

How to play Queen's Golf online

Getting Started

Start by selecting your game mode from the title screen. Most MSX 1 golf titles offer a single-round or tournament mode. Use the D-Pad to navigate menu options and press the A button (X key on keyboard) to confirm. Because Queen's Golf was likely released only in Japan, the menus will be in Japanese, but the layout is standard: options for starting a new game, choosing number of players (usually one), and selecting a course if multiple are available.

Once on the tee, the game presents you with a top-down or side-view of the fairway. Select your club by pressing up or down on the D-Pad, then aim left or right to set your direction. A power meter appears when you press the swing button (usually A). Press it again at the right moment to set power, then again for accuracy if a timing mechanic exists. After the ball lands, you repeat the process to approach the green and finally putt. The goal is to hole out with the lowest score.

Pay attention to wind direction, displayed on screen, and adjust your aim accordingly. Hazards like bunkers and water will increase your stroke count, so try to avoid them. If you cannot read Japanese, the in-game HUD might be cryptic, but the essential numbers - hole number, par, strokes taken - are typically represented as digits. Experiment with the controls to get a feel for the swing timing; it is usually generous but not completely forgiving.
