Konami's Baseball is an early sports title for the MSX 1, released sometime during the platform's first few years. Published by Konami, it joined a growing library of baseball simulators that brought America's pastime to Japanese home computers. The game is a straightforward single-player or two-player baseball simulation, representing Konami's first attempt at the sport on the MSX architecture before they later refined the formula on other systems. When you boot up Konami's Baseball, you control a team of nine players on a simple field. The core gameplay revolves around pitching, batting, and fielding. You can choose pitches by selecting speed and location, then swing the bat with timing. On defense, you move fielders with the keyboard and attempt to catch or throw the ball to record outs. The computer opponent offers a basic challenge, while a second player can take control of the visiting team for head-to-head matches. The on-screen interface is minimal, with score and inning info displayed in a small upper panel. Today, Konami's Baseball feels like a time capsule of early 1980s computer sports design. It is not a deep simulation; rather, it captures the simple joy of playing a quick nine-inning game. For collectors of MSX 1 software, it's a notable piece of Konami's early lineup. If you are curious about how baseball games looked and played before console standards emerged, this title is worth a few rounds. Just be prepared for its basic graphics and the absence of licenses or real player names.

How to play Konami's Baseball online

Getting Started When the game loads, you'll see a title screen. Press Enter to start, then you'll likely be asked to choose a game mode: one player vs computer or two players. Use Arrow Keys to move a cursor and X to confirm. If the game is the Japanese version, menu text will be in Japanese, but the selection is usually simple - just pick the top option for 1P vs COM and the second for 2P. Once the game begins, you are on the field. As the pitcher, you control the pitch by pressing a button to start the windup and another to release. The batter must time their swing by pressing the attack button when the ball approaches. On defense, you control the nearest fielder, moving them with the D-Pad and pressing the run button to accelerate or throw. The core loop: pitch, hit, field, score runs across nine innings. Pay attention to the scoreboard - it flashes the current inning and outs. After three outs, you switch sides. Simple rules of baseball apply: four balls walk the batter, three strikes are an out. If you lose, you can press V to return to the title screen. There are no save options, so each game is a fresh start. Experiment with different pitch speeds and locations to fool the computer hitter. With two players, it becomes a lively local competition.
