Golf Kyou - Golf Crazy

Golf Kyou - Golf Crazy is an MSX 1 golf simulation that likely originated in Japan during the early 1980s, when the MSX platform was a hub for both arcade ports and original sports titles. The exact publisher and developer are not widely documented, but the game fits squarely in the era's wave of simple, accessible golf games that tried to capture the feel of the real sport on limited hardware. If you're digging through the MSX library, this is one of those niche titles that shows how developers worked around technical constraints to deliver a recognizable sport experience. You take control of a golfer and navigate a series of holes, aiming to get the ball from the tee to the cup in as few strokes as possible. The core mechanics involve selecting a club, setting the direction and power of your swing, and accounting for wind or terrain slopes if those features are present. The MSX 1's joystick or keyboard input translates into basic aiming and a power meter that you must time correctly. It's a straightforward loop: line up your shot, swing, watch the ball travel, then repeat until you sink the putt. Menus are in Japanese, so some trial and error might be needed to figure out options like club selection or course view. Today, Golf Kyou - Golf Crazy is a curiosity for MSX collectors and fans of early sports simulations. It doesn't push boundaries with advanced graphics or complex physics, but it represents a time when golf games were starting to appear on home computers. If you enjoy seeing how the genre evolved from text-based or minigolf style releases to more comprehensive simulations like Leader Board, this title offers a modest but authentic slice of that history. It's not a must-play masterpiece, but for retro golf enthusiasts, it's a neat part of the MSX library that's worth a few rounds.
