Getting Started

Since this is a Japanese-exclusive ROM, the menus are entirely in Japanese. The first thing you will see is the title screen followed by a menu with options like new game, continue, and settings. Pressing Start (Enter) typically advances through these. Choose the top option to begin. You are dropped into a stage select screen where you choose a Maverick boss level to attack - each stage is a side-scrolling gauntlet of enemies and hazards.

The core loop is straightforward: run, jump, and blast through each stage using X to shoot and S for special weapon actions once you have them. Defeating a boss grants you its weapon, which you can switch between by pressing Z (Y button) or A (X button) depending on the weapon assignment. Collect health pickups and E-Tanks (energy tanks) from destroyed enemies or hidden capsules. You can also find armor upgrades and extra lives in certain stages.

New players should know that this game reuses many classic Mega Man X level layouts and enemy patterns, so veterans of the series will feel right at home. Because the menus are in Japanese, the only tricky part is navigating the password save screen - write down any code shown after a game over or when saving. The gameplay itself requires no translation: it is pure action platforming with responsive controls and tight hitboxes. Take your time learning boss patterns, and do not shy away from using special weapons when you get them.
