What is Power Pro Kun Pocket 2?

Power Pro Kun Pocket 2 is the second entry in Konami's portable baseball series, released exclusively for the Game Boy Color in Japan. Following the success of the original, this sports title brings the beloved chibi-style characters and arcade-style baseball action to handhelds. Developed and published by Konami, it remains a Japan-exclusive title that never saw an international release, making it a sought-after import for retro collectors. In this game, you take control of a baseball team and compete in matches against AI opponents. The core gameplay involves batting, pitching, and fielding using simplified controls that suit the Game Boy Color's limited buttons. You can choose from various modes, including exhibition games and a season mode where you manage your team through a series of games. The game also features a player creation system, allowing you to customize your own baseball player with different skills and abilities. Despite being a niche Japanese title, Power Pro Kun Pocket 2 is worth trying today for fans of retro sports games. Its charming graphics, tight gameplay, and deep mechanics make it a standout in the Game Boy Color library. While it requires some willingness to navigate Japanese menus, it offers plenty of addictive baseball action that holds up well even decades later.

How to play Power Pro Kun Pocket 2 online

When you first boot up the game, you'll see the main menu in Japanese. The top option is usually "Game Start" or "Exhibition" - select it to jump into a quick match. You can also choose "Season" for a longer campaign. In exhibition mode, you pick your team and opponent, then play a nine-inning game. The core loop is pitching, batting, and fielding: when pitching, use the D-Pad to aim and press A to throw; when batting, time your swing with the pitch using the A button. One important mechanic is the "Power Gauge" - a meter that fills as you hold down the swing button; releasing at the right moment gives a stronger hit. Fielding is automated but you can manually control throws using the B button. If you're new to the series, expect a forgiving arcade feel rather than a hardcore simulation. Since all menus are in Japanese, memorizing the layout of the main options helps - exhibition is usually first, options second, and season third. For a deeper experience, try the Success mode (the mode with a character icon) where you train a custom player through mini-games and drills. This mode adds RPG-like progression and is a hallmark of the Power Pro series. Overall, just jump into an exhibition game to get a feel for the controls, then explore the other modes once you're comfortable.
