Wild Card (J)
What is Wild Card (J)?
Wild Card is a 2001 role-playing game developed and published by Square for the WonderSwan Color. It was Square's first original title for the platform, arriving late in the system's life. The game released exclusively in Japan, which means menus and text are all in Japanese. It stands as an intriguing oddity in Square's catalog, a card-based RPG that feels quite different from their bigger console releases.
How to Play Wild Card (J) Online
Getting started: When you boot up Wild Card, you'll be greeted with a title screen in Japanese. Press the A button (X key) to start a new game. The game proceeds through a series of scenarios you can freely choose from. Your character moves around card-based areas using the D-Pad. Interact with characters by pressing A to advance dialogue and make choices that shape the world.
The core loop involves exploring these scenarios, talking to characters, and building relationships. Combat is turn-based and also represented with cards. You'll need to manage your deck and understand the card symbols to succeed. Since the game is in Japanese, you may need a guide to navigate menus and understand story prompts. The game saves progress via battery backup, so you can continue your adventure later.
