SD Gundam Eiyuuden - Eiyuuden Kishi Densetsu

SD Gundam Eiyuuden - Eiyuuden Kishi Densetsu is a Japan-exclusive title for the Bandai WonderSwan, released during the handheld's active years between 1999 and 2003. It belongs to the SD Gundam subseries, which reimagines the iconic mecha in super-deformed, childlike proportions. The publisher is almost certainly Bandai, as they both manufactured the WonderSwan and held the Gundam license. This copy carries a [M] tag, likely indicating a multi-language or modified revision, though the game itself remains in Japanese. The game is a turn-based strategy RPG, a genre that dominates the SD Gundam library on the WonderSwan. The player commands a squad of small Gundam units across grid-based maps, engaging enemy mobile suits in tactical combat. Each unit has unique stats and abilities, and the player must position them carefully to exploit terrain and range. Between battles, the story unfolds through text-heavy dialogue sequences, all in Japanese, driving the narrative forward. Experience points are earned to upgrade units, and new allies join the roster as the campaign progresses. Today, SD Gundam Eiyuuden - Eiyuuden Kishi Densetsu is a niche curiosity even among WonderSwan fans. Its appeal lies in its blend of classic SD humor and serious strategy mechanics, a combination that was popular in Japan but rarely exported. The game is accessible to emulator players who can navigate Japanese menus, but the language barrier may limit its reach. For enthusiasts of the WonderSwan or SD Gundam lineups, it offers a competent tactical experience that holds up well within the platform's library, even if it never broke new ground. How to Play

Controls

• Arrow Keys = D-Pad
• X = A button (jump/confirm)
• S = B button (run/attack/cancel)
• Z = Y button
• A = X button
• Q = L shoulder
• E = R shoulder
• Enter = Start
• V = Select

To get started, boot the game and press Start to reach the title screen, then use the D-Pad to select the first option (usually "New Game") and confirm with X. The game presents its menus entirely in Japanese, so players unfamiliar with the language may need to experiment or consult a guide. The core loop involves moving a cursor over units on the map, selecting commands like Move, Attack, or Wait, and watching the resolution of each turn. Pay attention to unit icons and health bars; damaged units can be retreated to safe zones. The flow is slow and deliberate, rewarding careful planning over twitch reactions.
