Getting Started

This is a side-scrolling platformer where you guide the ninja Jajamaru through stages full of enemies and hazards. The main goal is to reach the end of each level, usually by jumping on enemies or using a weapon to defeat them. The game is entirely in Japanese, but the interface is straightforward: you'll see a life counter and a stage number. Press start to begin.

The core loop involves moving right, avoiding pitfalls, and dispatching foes. Jajamaru can throw shurikens or use a sword depending on the version, but the basic action is jump + attack. Collect power-ups like scrolls or food icons to increase health or gain special attacks. The game is typical of its era: challenging but fair, with a simple structure that doesn't require reading menus to enjoy.

If you're new to Jajamaru games, expect tight jump timing and enemy patterns that require memorization. The WonderSwan's small screen means you'll need to react quickly. There's no save system, so it's a one-sitting arcade-like experience. Take advantage of the emulator's save states if you want to practice tricky sections.
