How to play Shadow of the Beast II online
Getting Started
When the game starts, you are dropped into a side-scrolling level with no tutorial. Move right using the d-pad, and use the jump button to clear gaps and reach platforms. The attack button lets you hit enemies - most of them can be knocked back or destroyed with repeated hits. The run button (B) makes you move faster, but you cannot attack while sprinting, so use it to avoid hazards or reposition quickly.
Your health is displayed at the top of the screen as a number of hit points. Touching enemies or certain traps drains it. Collect floating orbs and gems to restore health or gain points. The game is linear but has occasional hidden paths - experiment with jumping into walls or falling down pits that look bottomless. Dying sends you back to the start of the level, and there are no continues, so progress requires learning enemy patterns and level layouts.
If you are playing the Japanese version, menus are in English text (the SEGA CD version kept English UI). The start button pauses and shows a status screen; select does nothing during gameplay. The core loop is simple: survive each screen of enemies and obstacles until you reach the end of the stage. Expect to die often - Shadow of the Beast II is infamous for its difficulty.
