About Pocket Tennis Color - Pocket Sports Series (World) (En,Ja)
Pocket Tennis Color is a handheld tennis simulation from the Pocket Sports Series, released for the NEO-GEO Pocket Color in 1999. Developed and published by SNK, it was part of the launch lineup for the color handheld and saw a worldwide release with both English and Japanese text options. The game takes advantage of the system's crisp color screen and simple control scheme to deliver a quick arcade-style tennis match.
How to Play Pocket Tennis Color - Pocket Sports Series (World) (En,Ja) Online
Getting Started
At the title screen press Enter to start. You can choose single exhibition match, tournament mode, or practice. For exhibition, select your character and your opponent. The core loop is a standard tennis match: serve by pressing the A or B button (timing the toss), then return the ball by moving into position and pressing the appropriate button. The game uses a simple top-down view with the court scaled to fit the small screen.
Key mechanics: Pressing a button just before the ball arrives gives a stronger shot. You can also angle your return by holding a direction as you hit. The computer opponent adapts slightly, so mix up your shots between forehand, backhand, and lobs. In tournament mode you progress through multiple matches, but there are no special power-ups or items - it is pure arcade tennis. If you are playing the English version, menus are straightforward; the Japanese version uses the same layout, so you can navigate by trial and error.
