Pocket Reversi

Pocket Reversi is a digital adaptation of the classic board game Reversi (also known as Othello), released for the Neo Geo Pocket Color in Europe. Published by SNK, this title arrived during the handheld's early software lineup, offering a straightforward translation of the turn-based strategy game to a portable format. No special features or narrative elements are present; the focus is entirely on the timeless disc-flipping gameplay. The player takes on the role of one player (or faces an AI opponent) on an 8x8 grid. On each turn, you place a disc of your color adjacent to an opponent's disc, with the goal of trapping and flipping their pieces to your side. The core loop is simple: place discs, flip enemy discs, and control as much of the board as possible. Games are quick, typically lasting 15-20 minutes, and the AI provides a decent challenge for newcomers. Today, Pocket Reversi serves as a competent portable version of a classic strategy game. While it doesn't innovate beyond the basic Othello formula, its clean presentation and responsive controls make it a solid choice for fans of abstract board games. If you enjoy pure turn-based tactics without frills, this is worth a look on emulators or original hardware. It lacks the flashy modes of later adaptations but remains faithful to the original.
