Getting to Know Big Bang Pro Wrestling (Japan) (En,Ja)
Big Bang Pro Wrestling is a professional wrestling game for the NEO-GEO Pocket Color, released in Japan in 2000. It was developed and published by SNK, the company behind the NEO-GEO Pocket's library of arcade-style portable games. This version includes both English and Japanese text, making it slightly more accessible outside Japan, though the game itself was only officially sold there. It's a straightforward sports-fighting hybrid that fits neatly into SNK's lineup of quick-play handheld titles.
The player controls a wrestler and competes in one-on-one matches in a ring. The core loop involves approaching your opponent, using grapples, strikes, and throws to wear them down, then attempting a pinfall for the win. A simple control scheme uses two buttons for light and heavy attacks, plus a third for running. Matches have a time limit, and you can win by pinfall, submission, or count-out. There is no complex story mode, just exhibition matches and a tournament bracket to climb.
As a fairly basic wrestling game on a handheld, Big Bang Pro Wrestling doesn't have the depth of console wrestling titles like Fire Pro or WCW/nWo Revenge. What it does offer is a respectable roster of eight wrestlers, each with a few signature moves, and the ability to play against a friend via link cable. For collectors of NEO-GEO Pocket sports games, it's a neat curiosity. For casual players, the simple pick-up-and-play formula still holds up for short sessions, but don't expect any simulation elements or long-term progression.
How to Play Big Bang Pro Wrestling (Japan) (En,Ja) Online
When you start Big Bang Pro Wrestling, you will see a title screen. Press Start to proceed. The main menu offers options like VS Mode (single match), Tournament Mode, and Options. If you are playing the Japanese version, the menu text is in Japanese, but the layout is straightforward: the first option is usually VS Mode, second is Tournament, and third is Options. Use the D-Pad to highlight and press A (X key) to confirm.
In VS Mode, select your wrestler from a roster of eight. The computer opponent will be chosen automatically in single-player. Matches begin with a lock-up: approach your opponent and press B (S key) to grapple. Once in a grapple, press a direction plus B to execute a throw or strike. You can also run by pressing B while holding left or right. To pin, stand over a downed opponent and press A (X key). The match ends when the opponent is pinned, submits, or the time runs out (then a draw or decision).
If you have a second NEO-GEO Pocket and a link cable, you can play versus another human player. The link cable mode is available from the main menu. Otherwise, practice against the computer to learn each wrestler's special moves. The controls are responsive but take a little practice to chain grapples effectively. Remember that running attacks can knock the opponent down, setting up a pin attempt.
