How to Play R-Type (USA) Online
Getting Started
Press Start to begin. Your ship starts with a basic forward shot. The first thing you want is the Force pod. It appears after you destroy a certain enemy (usually a red-colored one). Grab it by flying into it, then experiment with the button that detaches/reattaches (B button by default). The pod can be placed in front for concentrated fire or behind for rear protection. Learn to use it as both a shield and a weapon.
The game scrolls automatically. Your job is to survive each stage and defeat the end-level boss. Enemies come from the front, behind, and sometimes the scenery itself. Memorize enemy patterns and use the pod wisely. Power-ups also appear for your main shot and missiles. Collecting the same power-up multiple times upgrades it. Dying resets your weapons to basic, so be careful.
R-Type is notoriously hard. Don't expect to finish it on your first try. Learn the level layouts, watch for dead ends and ambushes, and always keep your Force pod close when things get chaotic.
