What is Naxat Open?

Naxat Open is a golf simulation released in Japan for the NEC TurboGrafx-16. It was published by Naxat Soft, who lent their name to the title, and developed by the prolific contract studio TOSE. This game came out around the same time as Power Golf, another well-known golf title for the platform, making it part of the early wave of sports games for the TurboGrafx-16 library. Players take on the role of a golfer navigating a series of holes. The core gameplay involves selecting clubs, aiming your shot, and timing a three-click swing meter for power and accuracy. Like many golf sims of the era, you must account for wind and terrain to land your ball on the green and sink putts. The game features multiple courses and a standard stroke play format, with a simple interface that was typical of early 16-bit sports titles. For retro golf enthusiasts, Naxat Open is a solid but somewhat obscure entry in the TurboGrafx-16's sports lineup. It lacks the name recognition of Power Golf but offers a competent simulation experience with responsive controls. The Japanese-only release means menus are in Japanese, but the gameplay is intuitive enough to pick up without reading text. It's worth a look for collectors of the platform or fans of classic 8-bit sports games who want something a little different.

How to play Naxat Open online

Getting Started Start by pressing Enter to get past the title screen and into the main menu. Since the game is in Japanese, look for the option that begins a new game - this is typically the first or second entry in a list. Once you start a round, you'll see a course overview and the first hole. The core loop is straightforward: select a club (the button that brings up the club menu is usually tied to B or A), then aim your shot using the D-Pad. Press the action button to begin the swing meter, and press it again to set power. A third press sets accuracy. Wind direction and speed are displayed during the shot, so adjust your aim accordingly. Putting uses a similar meter but with a shorter power gauge. If you're new to golf sims, start on an easy course (if selectable) and focus on timing the three stages of the swing. The game rewards patience - rushing the meter often leads to a slice or hook. Menus are entirely in Japanese, but the gameplay is visual enough to navigate after a few rounds. Save states in the emulator can help you practice tricky shots without restarting a full round.
