Dungeon Master
What is Dungeon Master?
Dungeon Master is a first-person role-playing game originally released by FTL Games for the Atari ST in 1987. This version appears on the MSX 1 platform, though it is not an official port from the original developers. The MSX adaptation maintains the core dungeon-crawling experience but was likely created by a third party or fan group.
You guide a party of adventurers through a monster-filled dungeon, navigating corridors and rooms from a first-person viewpoint. Combat happens in real time: you click on enemies or use keyboard commands to attack. You manage inventory, cast spells by combining runes, and solve puzzles to progress deeper into the dungeon.
Dungeon Master is considered a landmark title that inspired many later RPGs. The MSX version, while not official, offers a similar challenge and atmosphere. It is best suited for players who enjoy methodical exploration, resource management, and real-time strategy.
How to Play Dungeon Master Online
When you start Dungeon Master, you are presented with a title screen and a character creation or party selection screen. The core loop involves exploring the dungeon, fighting monsters, collecting items, and solving puzzles. New players should be aware that this is a real-time game: enemies move even when you are standing still. Use the keyboard mapping to move forward/backward, turn, and strafe. Pay attention to your party's health and food supply. The game does not pause during combat or menu navigation, so plan actions quickly.
