Dokodemo Hamster (J) [M] is a virtual pet simulation for the Bandai WonderSwan, originally released in Japan during the early 2000s. The exact developer and publisher are not widely documented, but the game belongs to the small but charming library of handheld pet sims that appeared on monochrome and WonderSwan Color hardware. The "[M]" in the title may indicate a modified or merged ROM, but the core experience remains that of a digital hamster-raising game. The player assumes the role of a hamster owner, responsible for feeding, cleaning, and playing with their tiny companion. Day-to-day care involves monitoring the hamster's mood, hunger, and energy through simple menu-driven interactions. The game uses the WonderSwan's D-pad and two face buttons to navigate between options like food, toys, and sleep. While specific minigames or activities are not confirmed, typical pet sims of this era included basic play sessions and health tracking. Today, Dokodemo Hamster offers a glimpse into the quirky niche of Japanese handheld gaming. It is neither deep nor flashy, but its gentle loop of care and companionship holds a nostalgic appeal for collectors of unusual WonderSwan titles. If you enjoy slow-paced simulations or want to explore the WonderSwan's non-action library, this is a quaint curio worth a few minutes of your time. Just be prepared for Japanese text and minimal guidance.

How to play Dokodemo Hamster online

Getting Started When you boot the game, the title screen appears in Japanese. Press Start to reach the main menu, where you will see options like "はじめる" (start a new game) and "つづき" (continue). Use the D-pad to highlight and press X (A button) to confirm. A new game will prompt you to name your hamster - this is done via a simple on-screen keyboard. Use the D-pad to select characters and X to enter each one, then confirm with a dedicated option. Once in the game, your hamster sits in a small room. The interface shows icons at the bottom representing actions: feed, clean, play, and check status. Navigate with left/right on the D-pad and press X to select. Each action affects the hamster's heart (happiness), food (hunger), and cleanliness meters. Keep these balanced by performing actions regularly. If the hamster sleeps, wake it by pressing any button. The core loop is checking on your pet every few minutes, performing necessary care, and watching its reactions. The game runs in real time, so you can leave it idle and return to see changes. Since the text is entirely in Japanese, memorizing the icon positions helps. The B button (S key) cancels actions or goes back one screen. Save your progress by selecting the "きろく" (save) option in the menu - usually the last icon. Remember to save before closing the emulator.
