Densha de Go! 2 (J) [M]
Inside Densha de Go! 2 (J) [M]
Densha de Go! 2 is a train simulation game released for the WonderSwan in Japan, published by Taito in 1999. This handheld port captures the core experience of the arcade and console series, letting players take the driver's seat of various Japanese railway lines. As a simulation, it focuses on realistic operation rather than action, and the WonderSwan version was notable for packing that depth into a portable format with monochrome graphics.
How to Play Densha de Go! 2 (J) [M] Online
Getting Started
When you first boot Densha de Go! 2, you'll see a menu screen in Japanese. The first option is likely "Start" or "Game Start" - press X to proceed. After selecting a route (line), you'll begin at a station with the train stopped and doors open. Your goal is to drive to the next station, following speed limits and stopping precisely at the marked stop point.
The core loop involves accelerating smoothly, watching for signal changes and speed signs, and braking gradually to stop exactly at each station. A timing indicator shows how accurately you stop - the closer to perfect, the better your score. On the WonderSwan, you control speed using the D-Pad up/down or the A/B buttons for acceleration/braking. Keep an eye on the timetable and try to maintain schedule, but never exceed speed limits.
Since menus are entirely in Japanese, memorize a few key terms: "スタート" (start), "選択" (select), and the station names are often written in kanji. Trial and error will teach you the rest - the gameplay is intuitive once you're on the tracks. Use the horn (Z button) at crossings and when approaching stations, and don't forget to press the door open/close button (X button mapped to A) when you come to a full stop.
