X-Men (Europe)
Inside X-Men (Europe)
X-Men (Europe) is a side-scrolling beat 'em up for the SEGA Genesis, released in 1993 and published by Sega. This was one of the earliest X-Men games on a home console, coming out during the heyday of the 16-bit era. It arrived in Europe as a distinct region release, though it's essentially the same game as its US counterpart.
The game's central premise is simple: the X-Men must regain control of the Danger Room and stop Magneto. You pick from a small roster of mutant heroes, each with unique special attacks. The levels are linear, filled with Sentinels and other enemies, and you fight your way through to the final confrontation. Each character controls similarly but their mutant powers offer different tactical options.
For what it is, X-Men is a competent but not groundbreaking beat 'em up. The license and the multiple characters give it replay value. It's worth checking out if you're a fan of the franchise or want to see how superhero games played before the modern era. The difficulty can be punishing, but the music and sprites capture the early '90s comic vibe well.
How to Play X-Men (Europe) Online
Getting Started
When you start the game, you'll select one of the X-Men - each with distinct abilities like Cyclops' optic blast or Wolverine's claws. The core gameplay involves moving from left to right, pounding enemies, and using your special attack sparingly as it consumes health. The goal is to survive through several stages, defeat bosses, and ultimately take down Magneto. If you're new, pick a character with ranged attacks to stay safer.
The game throws waves of Sentinels and other robotic foes at you. You need to manage your health carefully because there are few health pickups. Experiment with each character to see whose moves feel best for your playstyle. The attack button is your main weapon, but you can also jump and kick for extra reach.
For the final confrontation, save your special attacks for Magneto's shield phases. The game does not have a save system, so you'll need to finish it in one sitting. The difficulty ramps up quickly, so persistence is key.
