Samurai Shodown (Europe)
Samurai Shodown (Europe) - Fighting Classic
This is the European version of Samurai Shodown for the SEGA Genesis, an official port of the classic 2D arcade fighting game originally released on the Neo Geo. It came out in the mid-1990s, around the time when many coin-op hits were making their way to home consoles. The Genesis port brought the weapon-based brawling to a wider audience, letting players experience the feudal Japanese setting and rivalries without needing a quarter feeder.
How to Play Samurai Shodown (Europe) Online
Getting Started
When you start the game, you'll see a title screen and soon a character selection grid. Choose one of the eight fighters, each wielding a unique weapon like a katana, staff, or even a giant club. The core loop is straightforward: you enter one-on-one matches against opponents, trying to deplete their health bar before yours runs out.
Samurai Shodown emphasizes spacing and timing over rapid button mashing. You have a light and heavy slash, a kick, and the ability to dodge or parry. A key mechanic is the Rage gauge - it fills as you take damage, and when maxed, your attacks deal extra damage and you can unleash a devastating super move. Pay attention to the distance between you and your foe, because whiffing a heavy slash leaves you wide open. The game also features a 'roll' to evade, and you can even knock the weapon out of an opponent's hand for a moment.
