Cyber Police ESWAT (Japan)
Cyber Police ESWAT (Japan) on Genesis
This is the Japanese SEGA Genesis port of the 1989 arcade run and gun Cyber Police ESWAT, released in 1990 by Sega. Known in North America as ESWAT: City Under Siege, this version retains the core action while adapting for home console. Published by Sega and developed by Sega's internal team, it was one of the earlier arcade conversions for the 16-bit system.
You control Duke Oda, a member of the Liberty City Cyber Police Force, in a side-scrolling shooter where your goal is to arrest criminals and stop a terrorist plot. The game starts you with a basic pistol, but you can collect weapon power-ups to gain a machine gun, spread shot, or other firepower. A key mechanic is upgrading to a powered exoskeleton at certain points, which increases your health and weapon capabilities. Levels are linear, full of enemies and obstacles, ending with a boss fight. The Genesis version streamlines the arcade original but keeps the run-and-gun feel intact.
For fans of late 80s arcade shooters, this is a solid entry in Sega's early Genesis library. It doesn't have the polish of later shooters like Gunstar Heroes, but its upgrade system and police theme give it a distinct identity. The Japan version is essentially the same as the US version, just with the original title screen. If you enjoy straightforward run-and-gun action with a bit of retro charm, Cyber Police ESWAT is worth a playthrough.
