Eye of the Beholder - Advanced Dungeons & Dragons
Eye of the Beholder - Advanced Dungeons & Dragons on SCD
Eye of the Beholder is a first-person dungeon crawler RPG that originally hit PCs before arriving on the SEGA CD. This version came out in 1994, bringing the classic Advanced Dungeons & Dragons experience to Sega's add-on. The game was developed by Westwood Associates and published by Sega, though I'm not entirely sure if the port work was done in-house or by another team. It's a direct adaptation of the computer game, not a hack or mod, and it takes full advantage of the CD format with redbook audio for the soundtrack.
How to Play Eye of the Beholder - Advanced Dungeons & Dragons Online
Getting Started
You control a party of adventurers exploring a massive dungeon beneath the city of Waterdeep. The view is first-person, and you move tile by tile with the D-pad. Combat happens in real time but with a turn-based feel each character acts based on speed. You'll need to manage your party's health, spells, and equipment as you fight monsters like giant rats and beholders.
There's no hand-holding here explore every corridor, search for secret doors, and pay attention to clues written on walls. The automap helps you navigate but you have to reveal it by moving. Resting recovers health and spells but can attract monsters. Save often using the in-game menu the SEGA CD version uses a battery save system, so you can continue your progress.
