Small Soldiers

Small Soldiers (USA) is a video game released on the PlayStation PSX in 1998, developed by 3DO and based on the film of the same name. This action game places players in the midst of a conflict between toy soldiers and their enemy counterparts. It captures the charm of the late 90s era gaming, where tie-ins to popular films were common, and players could experience familiar narratives through interactive gameplay. In Small Soldiers, players control various characters from the film, utilizing different abilities to navigate through levels filled with enemies and obstacles. The gameplay involves completing missions that often require strategic thinking and combat skills. Players can switch between characters, each with unique weapons and abilities, to tackle challenges effectively. The game emphasizes action-oriented gameplay, blending platforming elements with combat mechanics, which was a hallmark of many titles during this time. For those revisiting or discovering Small Soldiers today, it's a nostalgic trip back to the era of licensed games that were often hit or miss. While it may not be as polished or expansive as other titles from the same period, it offers a unique blend of action and strategy that can be enjoyable, especially for fans of the movie. It represents a specific moment in gaming history when toys and films were often intertwined, making it an interesting title to explore, even if it sits in the shadow of more accomplished contemporaries.
