SBI Group Kanshuu - Hajimeyou! Shisan Unyou DS - Educational Classic

This is a Japanese-exclusive Nintendo DS title that serves as a financial literacy tool, supervised by SBI Group, a major Japanese financial services company. Released in the late 2000s during the DS's boom in educational software, it teaches basic asset management concepts through interactive lessons and simulation. The cartridge was sold only in Japan, so menus and instructions are entirely in Japanese, making it a niche curiosity for collectors of region-locked learning games. Players work through structured modules covering topics like budgeting, saving, investing, and risk management. The interface uses the DS touchscreen for selecting options, inputting numbers, and navigating menus. Mini-games and quizzes reinforce the material, and progress is tracked over time. There is no traditional plot or characters; the focus stays squarely on practical personal finance skills presented in a game-like format. As a piece of edutainment from Japan's late DS era, it offers a unique glimpse into how everyday financial education was gamified for a handheld audience. It's not an action title or a story-driven experience, but for anyone interested in Japanese educational software or the broader DS library of non-game applications, it's a rare find. The simulation-style lessons are methodical and straightforward, though the language barrier makes it mostly inaccessible without Japanese reading ability.

Getting Started

Upon booting the game, you'll see a Japanese title screen. Press Enter or X to start. The main menu presents several lesson categories, each covering a different aspect of asset management (savings, stocks, budgeting, etc.). Use the Arrow Keys to highlight a lesson and X to select. The game relies heavily on the touch screen for answering quizzes and entering numbers, so make sure your mouse pointer can simulate taps.

The core loop is simple: read through lesson screens (all in Japanese), then complete interactive exercises like multiple-choice questions, drag‑and‑drop sorting, or numerical input. Correct answers earn points and unlock deeper modules. There is no time pressure; you can proceed at your own pace. If you cannot read Japanese, the numerical exercises are still understandable, but the instructional text will be opaque. Focus on the visual patterns and learn by trial.

Save progress is automatic if you return to the main menu before powering off. The touchscreen is the primary control for most actions, so use the mouse to tap on buttons and fields rather than relying only on keyboard shortcuts. The shoulder buttons (Q and E) are rarely needed, as the game was designed for stylus use.
