'Chou' Kowai Hanashi DS - Ao no Shou

This is 'Chou' Kowai Hanashi DS - Ao no Shou, a Japanese-exclusive horror game released for the Nintendo DS. It belongs to a series of interactive story collections that focus on creepy tales and urban legends, a genre that saw many entries on the platform between 2006 and 2009. The exact developer and publisher are not widely documented outside Japan, but it was sold commercially as a full retail title, not a hack or fan project. If you are looking for a straightforward horror experience from the DS era, this is one of those niche imports that rewards exploration if you can navigate the language. The gameplay revolves around reading and interacting with a series of short horror stories. You progress by tapping through text, often involving simple stylus-based actions like selecting choices at key moments or tapping on screen elements to trigger events. The game relies heavily on atmosphere and sound design, with creepy background music and sudden visual shocks. It is a slow-paced, narrative-driven experience without complex mechanics - comparable to a choose-your-own-adventure book on a handheld. What makes this title worth trying today is its niche appeal: it offers a curated set of Japanese horror stories that never saw an official translation. The atmosphere and pacing hold up decently, though the Japanese menus and text can be a barrier. If you can read the language or are willing to use a guide, it provides a unique glimpse into the DS horror library. It is not a masterpiece, but for fans of digital storytelling and obscure imports, it is a curious piece of DS history.
