Time Pilot
About Time Pilot
Time Pilot first hit arcades in 1982, developed and published by Konami. The MSX 1 port arrived in 1983, bringing this multidirectional shooter to home consoles. You pilot a jet fighter across open airspace that scrolls freely in all directions, with each level set in a different historical era.
The core gameplay revolves around shooting down enemy aircraft while avoiding their attacks and collisions. The screen scrolls indefinitely as you fly, and enemies appear from all sides. Each period introduces new enemy types and backgrounds, from World War I biplanes to futuristic jets. The objective is to survive and eliminate all foes to advance to the next time period.
For fans of classic arcade shooters, Time Pilot remains a solid pick even on MSX. It captures the frantic, free-scrolling action of the original without major compromises. It may not have the depth of later shooters, but its simple pick-up-and-play design and historical theme give it a unique charm among early console ports.
How to Play Time Pilot Online
Getting Started
When you start Time Pilot on MSX 1, you control a jet that can move in all directions across a scrolling battlefield. Press the S button to fire your weapon. Enemies will fly in from all sides, so keep moving and shoot them down before they ram into you or hit you with their own fire.
The game is split into levels, each themed after a different time period - starting with World War I-style planes and progressing through the decades. You must destroy all enemy aircraft in a wave to advance. Watch out for enemy bullets and collision; getting hit costs you a life. There are no continues, so survival is key.
If you see a turquoise-colored enemy, prioritize it - it releases a power-up when destroyed that can upgrade your ship's firepower. Otherwise, the loop is straightforward: dodge, shoot, and clear each wave to move to the next era. The MSX version retains the same fast-paced action as the arcade original.
