Star Blazer
Star Blazer: MSX1 Shooter
Star Blazer is a horizontally scrolling shooter originally programmed by Tony Suzuki for the Apple II and published by Broderbund Software in 1982. The version you can play here runs on the MSX 1, a popular 8-bit home computer system from the early 1980s. While the original coding was for Apple hardware, the MSX port brought the same core experience to Japanese and European gamers who owned that platform.
How to Play Star Blazer Online
Getting started
Star Blazer is a straightforward horizontal shooter. When you start the game, you control a small starfighter that moves left and right across the screen, firing at waves of enemy ships and obstacles. The core loop is simple: survive each stage by dodging enemy fire and destroying everything in your path. Points accumulate for each hit, and the difficulty ramps up as you progress.
There are no complex power-ups or branching paths in this early shooter. The main challenge comes from learning enemy patterns and timing your shots. Because the MSX version may display text in Japanese, the menus and score display might not be in English. Look for the highest score number and the stage indicator to track your progress. Just press Start to begin and use the arrow keys to move and the fire button to shoot.
