Tantei Jinguuji Saburou - Kiken na Futari - Kouhen

Tantei Jinguuji Saburou - Kiken na Futari - Kouhen is the second half of the first game in the long-running detective adventure series from Data East. Released exclusively for the Famicom Disk System in 1989 in Japan, it was never officially localized. The title translates roughly to "Detective Saburou Jinguuji - Dangerous Pair - Later Part," and it continues the murder mystery started in the Zenpen (first half) disk. This is a text-heavy point-and-click adventure typical of Japanese home computer and console mysteries of the late 80s, where you guide the titular detective through interrogations and scene examinations. The player takes on the role of Saburou Jinguuji, moving through pre-rendered static screens by selecting from a command menu at the bottom of the screen. You can talk to characters, look at objects, pick up items, and use them where appropriate to gather clues and advance the story. The game presents a branching narrative with multiple puzzles and dialogue choices that determine whether you solve the case or hit a dead end. Like many visual novel adventure hybrids of its era, it relies on careful observation and logical deduction rather than action reflexes. For modern retro enthusiasts, this title is a fascinating example of early console detective fiction. While the Japanese-only text is a barrier, fan translation patches exist that make the full story accessible. The mood is classic film noir mixed with the limited graphical and sound capabilities of the Disk System, giving it a unique charm. It's not a fast-paced game, but it rewards patient players who enjoy piecing together clues and engaging with a well-crafted mystery plot. If you're into the works of Data East or early adventure games, this is a worthwhile piece of Famicom history.
