Suishou no Dragon (Japan)
Suishou no Dragon (Japan) - Shooter Classic
Suishou no Dragon (Japan) is a side-scrolling shooter released for the Famicom Disk System in 1986. It was published and developed by Square, known for its early work on console games before the Final Fantasy series took off. The game was only released in Japan, which means menus and text are entirely in Japanese.
You control a flying dragon through a series of horizontally scrolling stages, blasting enemies with fireballs and avoiding their attacks. Power-ups appear as colored orbs that enhance your dragon's weaponry, changing the spread or strength of your shots. The stages are linear, with a boss waiting at the end of each level to test your reflexes and pattern recognition.
Suishou no Dragon is a solid example of mid-80s shoot-'em-up design on Nintendo's disk system. Its dragon theme and colorful visuals give it personality, while the power-up system adds replayability. If you enjoy straightforward, arcade-style shooters and want to explore the FDS library, this is a decent pick, even with the language barrier.

How to Play Suishou no Dragon (Japan) Online
Getting Started
When you boot up Suishou no Dragon, the title screen appears in Japanese. Press Enter to start the game. The menu is minimal, so you can simply press start and begin playing. Your dragon will appear on the left side of the screen, and enemies will come from the right.
Use the Arrow Keys to move your dragon up, down, forward, and backward. Press the B button (S key) to fire your primary weapon. Collect colored orbs that drop from certain enemies to upgrade your attack. Each color changes your weapon's behavior, so experiment to find what works best for each stage. Your goal is to reach the end of each level and defeat the boss.
If you get hit, you lose a life and your weapon reverts to its basic state. The game ends when you run out of lives. There is no save feature, so you must complete the entire game in one session. Since the manual and menus are in Japanese, learning the power-up effects through trial and error is part of the experience.
