Koneko Monogatari - The Adventures of Chatran

Koneko Monogatari - The Adventures of Chatran is a Famicom Disk System platformer that originally hit store shelves in Japan in 1988. It was published by Toshiba EMI, though the specific development team is not widely documented in English sources. The game was never released outside Japan, so you are playing a Japanese import here with all menus and text in Japanese. You control a kitten named Chatran, hopping through side-scrolling levels that mix traditional platform jumping with light exploration. Your main tools are a jump button (the A button) and an attack button (the B button) that lets you pounce on enemies or interact with certain objects. The goal in each stage is to reach the exit flag, dodging hazards and grabbing collectible items along the way. There is no health bar - you lose a life on contact with most enemies unless you attack first. The game keeps the action simple and direct, much like other character-driven platformers of the era. What makes this title worth a look today is its charming feline protagonist and the overall cute presentation, which stands apart from the more typical humanoid or robot heroes of the late 80s. It is a niche, overlooked entry in the FDS library, but it has a dedicated following among collectors who appreciate its clean sprite work and straightforward level design. If you enjoy early mascot platformers and want a quick, lighthearted play session, this one is a fun little curiosity.
