Galaga

This is a Famicom Disk System port of Galaga, the iconic 1981 fixed shooter from Namco that originally dominated arcades. The "Disk Writer" label suggests this version was distributed through Nintendo's Disk Writer kiosks in Japan, where players could copy games onto blank FDS disks for a fee. As the sequel to Galaxian, it refined the alien-blasting formula with smarter enemy patterns and the signature tractor beam mechanic. You control a small starship at the bottom of the screen, moving left and right to dodge enemy fire while shooting waves of Galaga forces that dive down in formation. The key hook is that some aliens can capture your ship with a tractor beam. If you manage to destroy that captor and free your fighter, it joins you as a powered-up "dual fighter" with double firepower - but lose it and you're back to single. Each stage ends when all enemies are eliminated, with bonus challenge stages offering extra points for precision shooting. Today, this FDS version stands as a faithful home conversion of an arcade legend, though it lacks some of the visual sparkle of the original cabinet.
